FAMOC Recovery mode

The FAMOC Recovery mode provides a safe way to get back control over the device which for any reason has lost connection to FAMOC MDM (e.g. is offline in the Kiosk Mode).

The FAMOC Recovery mode allows system administrators to unenroll device without uninstalling any of the FAMOC agents. In the recovery mode all agents stop reporting to the MDM server, policies status changes to “not yet applied”, applications, configurations and other actions are dropped.

It gives IT administrators a possibility to re-enroll the device without losing any logs, location, device monitor, usage monitor data or backups. Internet connection is not required to recovery mode operation.

How to use Recovery mode

1. Open FAMOC app on the device.

  1. Click IT Control in FAMOC Base Agent menu and select Recovery Mode:

3. In the FAMOC administrator console go to MANAGEMENT -> Devices and find the device on the list. Click Manage. Go to the Agents tab, then click Generate access code for Base Agent.

4. Select the Recovery mode, enter the challenge code that appears on the device, and click OK. (The code can be entered with or without a spacebar and dashes.)

The server response code will be displayed.

5. Rewrite response code from FAMOC to the device, and click OK.

6. The device displays “Response verified successfully. Recovery mode started.” message and FAMOC enrolment window is displayed.

7. If the device is connected to the Internet, recovery mode operation is in progress , the device reports OK and the message “Recovery procedure started” appears in Logs. If the device is offline, the FAMOC administrator can manually mark operations as successful or failed.

8. The device is marked as wiped and un-enrolls from FAMOC, but it’s possible to re-enroll the same device together with the previously obtained data.

9. To do the device re-enrolment the user has to go to all device’s general view, select the device that needs to be re-enrolled, click Device Enrollment icon and send the specified configuration to the device.

10. Then go to the device logs and copy the enrollment code.

Provide the server address and the startup (enrolment) code on the FAMOC enrolment window on the device. Then follow the same steps as in the typical FAMOC agent installation.

FAMOC Maintenance mode

The Maintenance mode allows you to disable all restrictions enforced by the policy (e.g. kiosk mode or launcher) in order to repair any errors on the device without uninstalling any of the FAMOC components. Ending the maintenance mode will return the device to its previous settings. The Internet connection is not required to enter the maintenance mode. To run it the user needs a special code generated by the FAMOC administrator. In the maintenance mode, all FAMOC operations on the device are set on “Waiting” until the administrator ends Maintenance mode, except for remote access and wipe operations that can be run without a delay.

How to use Maintenance mode

  1. Open FAMOC app on the device

  2. Click IT Control in FAMOC Base Agent menu and select Maintenance Mode.

  1. In the FAMOC administrator console go to MANAGEMENT > Devices and find the device. Click Manage and go to Agents tab, then click Generate access code for Base Agent.

  1. Select the Maintenance mode, enter the challenge code that appears on the device, and click OK. (The code can be entered with or without a spacebar and dashes.)

  1. Rewrite the response code from the server to the device, and click OK.

  1. The device displays “Response verified successfully. Maintenance mode invoked.” message.

  1. The maintenance mode operation is invoked and "Maintenance mode started" message appears in Logs. The security policy status changes to outdated, the refresh operation is created in the "Waiting" status. Any operations for the device are queued in "Waiting" status until the FAMOC administrator manually marks operation as finished (successful, failed or cancelled).

  1. There are three possibilities to end the Maintenance mode:

  1. Cancel operation

This option will cancel the maintenance mode operation. All operations in queue will be sent to the device.

  1. Mark as successful

The maintenance mode operation will be marked as “Maintenance mode marked as successful”. All operations in queue will be sent immediately to the device after successful maintenance operation.

  1. Mark as failed

This option will mark maintenance mode operation as “Operation Failed”. All operations in queue will be sent to the device.
